PRINCESS ALEXANDRA EYE PAVILION - We're Fighting for its Future!

The SNP Government have reneged on their promise to fund a new Eye Pavilion in Edinburgh, they now want to send us west along the M8 for specialist eyecare. We MUST challenge this.

Since opening in 1969, the Princess Alexandra Eye Pavilion (PAEP) has delivered eye health care and treatment services to countless patients, of all ages, from across Edinburgh, the Lothians and South East Scotland; and is a world-renowned centre of excellence in this field.

The facility was deemed ‘unfit for purpose’ in 2015, and in 2018, the Scottish Government committed to fund a new eye hospital to replace the Princess Alexandra Eye Pavilion to continue the high standard of ophthalmology services to people from Edinburgh, the Lothians and South East Scotland.

The Scottish Government’s decision to withdraw its funding commitment to NHS Lothian of £45 million to fund the building of a new eye hospital facility in Edinburgh is reckless, and has been described as an act of vandalism by former director Dr Hector Chawla.

There is widespread and growing public concern about the loss of the Princess Alexandra Eye Pavilion.

I'm calling for the urgent reversal of the Scottish Government’s decision to withdraw the £45 million funding previously allocated to NHS Lothian to replace the Princess Alexandra Eye Pavilion with a new facility; so as to ensure the people of Edinburgh, Lothians and South East Scotland can continue to have access to eye healthcare, hospital and treatment services in a facility located within Edinburgh.
